Who are we:

Over the last decade Owl Castings have become one of the UK’s largest producer of full size and scale model castings for live steam locomotives and traction engines. We have cast every possible casting that would be used to build live steam traction engines and locomotives in both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Our metal castings span brass, bronze and iron, we even work in aluminium. We regularly cast metal components for all scales of live steam locomotives including, 2.5”, 3.5”, 4.75”, 5”, 7.25” and 10.25” also including 45mm narrow gauges.

 

Model railway wheels in cast iron:

 

Wheel castings for model railways are some of our most popular work. We cast all our live steam locomotive wheels in iron and also have a machining service available for customers who may not have a sufficiently large lathe available to them for machining complex or large wheels. Locomotive wheel castings in iron have been produced in our foundry for over 80 years and we are pleased that we can continue the tradition of making live steam locomotive wheel castings in iron to support this wonderful hobby.

 

For model steam railway wheels cast in iron we make all our own patterns in house. Our pattern shop works 6 days a week making patterns for live steam enthusiasts from their drawings or CAD files. Using modern pattern making methods and traditional iron castings methods our model railway live steam locomotive castings are of exceptional quality and we export internationally.
